** WRBA Town Hall – The next Woodhaven Town Hall will be Saturday, September 17, at noon, at Emanuel United Church of Christ (93-12 91st Avenue, at the corner of 91st Avenue and Woodhaven Boulevard).  Click here to view our entire schedule of town halls for 2016.
 
** Community Board 9 Returns – CB9 resumes their monthly public meetings on Tuesday, September 13th starting at 7:45 PM at Villa Russo (101-12 Lefferts Boulevard). They have a full agenda (click here to read it) – but of special interest is an update being presented on SBS by DOT. Community Board 9 is expected to vote on the SBS proposal the following month (that is, at the October 11th meeting, not the September 13th meeting). If you want to speak out on this (or any other) issue at a CB9 meeting, you must sign up for the “Public Forum” when you get there; you will be given 3 minutes to speak.
 
** Woodhaven Celebration 2016 – The Woodhaven Residents’ Block Association will welcome civic leaders, elected officials, and fellow residents to Roma View Fine Catering on Friday, October 21, 2016, for the organization’s 45th annual fundraiser. ** Woodhaven History Rollback Night – Tuesday, September 6th (7 PM Avenue Diner 91-06 Jamaica Ave) – a FREE 100-year virtual tour down Jamaica Avenue (North Side) from Woodhaven to Columbia Avenue (91st Street). Learn about one store’s amazing connection to General Custer; find out where one of Woodhaven’s WW1 Fallen Soldiers lived; find out where one of the world’s largest businesses used to sit! The Woodhaven Cultural & Historical Society has traced the businesses along this stretch all the way back to 1912 so you’ll know which store used to be where, and there are a number of surprises in store for you! Attendees will receive a special handout with a listing of all of the stores. Email woodhavenhistory@gmail.com if you have questions.


 
** Registration at the School Sisters of Notre Dame – If you know of any friends or relatives who need help learning English – or could benefit from their High School Equivalency Diploma – please let them know about this wonderful tuition free opportunity for women right here in Woodhaven! ** Cemetery Restoration – Some extra hands are needed on Saturday, September 10th at the historic Woodhaven Founder’s Cemetery on 96th Street and 86th Avenue from 9AM to 12PM.  The back portion of the cemetery is almost cleared and ready for grass seeds to be planted – just need a few hands moving some small rocks (nothing heavy!). A free Pizza Lunch will be provided to everyone after the cleanup.
 
** Richmond Hill Park Fair – The Richmond Hill Block Association will be hosting their annual Park Fair (at Myrtle Avenue and Park Lane South) on Saturday, September 17th from 10 AM to 6 PM.

** Emanuel Church Dinner & Show – This great annual event will be held this year on Saturday, September 24th starting at 5:30 PM at Emanuel United Church of Christ (91st Avenue and Woodhaven Boulevard). Tickets are $20 and include a full dinner (fruit cup, rolls, stuffed chicken breast, gravy, cranberry sauce, potatoes, corn apple crumb cake, coffee, tea and iced tea. This year’s show musical performance is entitled “Salute to the USA” – to reserve your spot, call Pam Steffens at 718-849-1153. ** Paint Night Party – Come out and paint the night away at a fun Paint Night Party on Tuesday, September 27th at Emanuel United Church of Christ (91st Avenue and Woodhaven Boulevard) from 7 to 9 PM. With the loss of the center on 78th Street, Emanuel Church has become one of the last places the community of Woodhaven can hold a meeting — and the people at Emanuel have always been generous with their space. This is our opportunity to give back to them and have a great time at the same time!! This Paint Night is being brought to you by Assemblyman Mike Miller and the Woodhaven Cultural & Historical Society. Tickets to the event are $30 per person — and for that you will be provided with all the supplies you need to make your very own masterpiece! ** Fall Harvest Festival – The annual Fall Festival sponsored by Councilman Eric Ulrich will take place on Saturday, October 15th from 12 Noon to 3 pm.  This is a great event for the whole family with rides and activities for the kids, a pumpkin patch and more!  Click here for highlights from a previous year’s event!
** Wonderful Woodhaven Street Fair – Please note that this year’s Woodhaven Street Fair, sponsored by the Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation and the Woodhaven Business Improvement District, will be held on Sunday, October 16 from noon to 6 pm, from Woodhaven Boulevard to 80th Street. There will be, as usual, vendors, food, music, rides — an event we all look forward to ever year. Save the date!
** Fall Classic Car Show – 8AM to 3PM at the Forest Park Bandshell – dozens of classic cars on display. There will be food, music, and more. Sponsored by theEast Coast Car Association which raises thousands every year for St. Mary’s Hospital for Children in Bayside.
 
** K9 Korral Halloween Costume Contest for Dogs – The annual canine costume party will be held on Saturday Oct. 29, 2016 from  1 to 4 PM. Prizes for Best Costume/Best Original/Best Team. Free refreshments will be served. ** All Saints New Mass Times – This Sunday All Saints Episcopal Church (85-45 96th Street) begins their new mass schedule. 8 AM – Said Mass (Rite 1), 9:30 AM – La Misa en Español, 11:00 AM – Sung High Mass (Rite 2). They also offer the following weekday services in the chapel: Low Mass every Wednesday at 7:00 PM, Low Mass or Morning Prayer every Friday at 9:30 AM.

** Burglar Threatens Resident – A home intruder entered through an unlocked back door and threatened a homeowner of Forest Parkway during a weekday.Click here for details.  He is still at large. Sometimes there is nothing you can do to avoid an encounter with a burglar, but don’t make it easy for then. You would never leave your front door unlocked, always keep your back door tightly secured!

** DOT Changes Mind on Woodhaven School Parking – After denying parking signs to a school on 91st resulting in daily traffic jams and chaos, DOT has reversed itself and said that they will put the signs up after all. To refresh your memory, click here to read about the initial complaint from the school and residents.
 

** Woodhaven Business Study Expected SoonAccording to the Queens Chronicle, the results of a study aimed at identifying ways to strengthen business on Jamaica Avenue will be released in the coming weeks. The study encompasses the strip from Forest Parkway to 114th Street, which includes some blocks in Richmond Hill.

 
** Woodhaven Residents’ 2016 Survey – The WRBA has launched a survey to find out what is on the mind of residents and how we can make Woodhaven a better place to live.  All information on this survey is confidential but, for those who respond and provide contact information, we will add their name to a drawing for three $50 cash prizes. Click here to start the survey!
