Weather Alert: snowstorm tonight into tomorrow

A significant snowstorm is approaching our area and is expected to hit this evening.  Heavy snow will continue through Saturday morning. Winds also will increase, with strong gusty winds expected. A blizzard warning for NYC in in effect through 1 PM Saturday, with 10-15 inches of snow expected.   There’s no need to panic, but you should be prepared.  Finish your preparations now if you haven’t done so already.  Have a snow shovel, salt, a flashlight, spare batteries, necessary medication, non-perishable food items, and anything else you may find necessary.  Keep off the roads and be prepared to stay home for the next 24 hours.

If you are a Block Captain: please stay in touch with us to report conditions on your block.  Without your help, we can’t know what parts of Woodhaven are awaiting attention.  Block Captains should contact us three hours after the snow has stopped.  They can e-mail us at this address, or call 718-296-3735 and leave a message.

If you have an elderly neighbor please do take a few moments to check in on them and make sure they are okay.

According to 311, there will be no garbage or recycling collection tomorrow, Saturday, February 9.

Sanitation Department snow plow vehicles are now being tracked by GPS, and you can see their work in progress by visiting a new website.  Go to this website: http://on.nyc.gov/VLsjmJ.  Then enter your address.  You’ll be able to see when your street was last plowed, and you will also be able to see which streets are primary (red), secondary (blue), or tertiary (yellow) plowing priorities.
