** Heatwave! – The temps are in the 90s outside so we’re passing along this timely email from Con Edison detailing ways to stay cool, save money and stay safe! Click here for more info.
** We’re in for a Noisy Summer – An audit performed by State Controller Thomas DiNapoli found that there were over 90,000 noise complaints in 2015 and in 85% of them “either no action was taken or the records were unclear what was done.” Click here for more info. If you feel you are part of the 85% whose complaints have gone unanswered, make sure you come to the next Woodhaven Town Hall meeting  Thursday, June 15th 2017 @ 7:00pm at American Legion Post 118 Headquarters at 89-02 91st Street (at the corner of 91st Street and 89th Avenue, behind PS 60).
** Forest Park Memorial Drive – As requested by the Woodhaven Cultural & Historical Society (WCHS) and American Legion Post 118, and thanks to a bill submitted by CM Elizabeth Crowley (which passed unanimously), Forest Park Drive was rededicated as Forest Park Memorial Drive in a ceremony at Oak Ridge. It was almost 98 years ago to the very day that these young men were honored by our community at this very spot — and it turned out to be a very nice ceremony – click here to see some pictures and lots of video.  Bonus: Here are links to coverage in the local papers: The Leader-ObserverThe Queens ChronicleThe Queens Tribune, and QNS
** An Artist Pays Tribute to Woodhaven Landmark – Artist Madeline Lovallo is well known around our community for her painting of Lewis’ of Woodhaven. She has also painted local landmarks such as the Carousel, Oak Ridge, and the FDNY Dispatch Building on Park Lane South and Woodhaven Blvd. And now she has added a new Woodhaven painting to her collection – a beautiful painting of Emanuel United Church of Christ, which recently celebrated its’ 140th Anniversary! Click here to see pictures and video of the painting while Madeline painted it on a busy Woodhaven Boulevard!

** Neir’s Tavern on CNN – Did you see that our historic Neir’s Tavern was profiled on CNN’s Parts Unknown hosted by Anthony Bourdain? Click here to see the Neir’s segment from the program! (Early on in the report, it states that the 7 Train runs down Jamaica Avenue – apparently CNN also gets us confused with Woodside! CNN made one other historical error in the piece – did you spot it? Email us if you have the answer and we’ll post your name in the next Digest!)

** Jeff Lewis on Voices of Woodhaven – The Woodhaven Historical Society is collecting oral histories from Woodhaven residents and recently interviewed Jeff Lewis, who wanted to share stories from his early days in Woodhaven. Jeff went to the old wooden PS 60 and grew up in the Wyckoff and has a lot of good stories to tell. Click here to hear Jeff Lewis. Want to share your memories with us? Email and start talking!!

** Great Woodhaven Yard Sale 2017 – The GWYS is scheduled for Saturday September 23rd. Houses from all over Woodhaven will be participating and will be included on maps distributed online and all over Woodhaven. People have started to come from all over to the GWYS – let us drive the traffic to your door! Email now to register! And tell your neighbors! Our experience has been that ‘clusters’ of homes end up doing much better the day of the GWYS.
** WRBA Website – If you ever want to know when our next meeting is, you can always find out by visiting our official website – There, you will find our Community Calendar, Latest News and Announcements, Membership Info, our Press Releases, and a list of our media appearances.
** Woodhaven Resources – Click here for a new page that is a useful resource of local numbers and links — you will find local clubs and organizations, emergency numbers, city agencies, elected officials, schools and churches. This is a work in progress – if you come across any incorrect information or information you think should be added, please drop a line to
