** Next WRBA Town Hall – The next Woodhaven Town Hall will be Saturday, September 15th 2018 @ 12:00pm – Emanuel United Church of Christ 91st Avenue and Woodhaven Boulevard.

** 2018 Woodhaven Dinner Dance – Save the Date!! The WRBA is happy to announce the annual dinner dance will be held on Friday, October 26th from 7 p.m. through 11 p.m. at Roma View on Crossbay Blvd. And we are very happy to announce this year’s honorees — Man of the Year Jose Vasquez, Woman of the Year Peggy Finnegan and Business of the Year Dexter Wines and Spirits. ** Woodhaven History Meeting – The Woodhaven Cultural & Historical Society looks back at growing up in Woodhaven Tuesday, September 4th at 7 p.m. at The Avenue Diner (91-06 Jamaica Avenue). The meeting is free and everyone is invited. Everyone who attends will receive a free gift!

** SSNDEC Registration – The School Sisters of Notre Dame Educational Center for Women will hold open registration for their tuition-free high school equivalency diploma classes for the 2018-19 school year on Wednesday, September 5, or Thursday, September 6, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. To register, visit the center at 87-04 88th Avenue, across from St. Thomas the Apostle Church,

** 102 Pct. Blood Drive – Our 102nd Precinct is holding a Blood Drive on Friday, September 7th – 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Call 718-805-3215 if you have questions. Click here for general information about the benefits of donating blood.

** Farmers Market – There will be a farmer’s market in Richmond Hill starting on Saturday, September 8th 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Park Lane South and Myrtle Avenue and running every Saturday through November 17th. Fresh locally grown fruits, vegetables, grains, honey and more.

** Community Board 9 Returns – CB9 returns with a meeting on Thursday, September 13th at 7:45 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Villa Russo IL Palazzo (101-12 Lefferts Blvd).

** Richmond Hill Park Fair – The Richmond Hill Block Association will be holding their annual Park Fair on Saturday, September 15th 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Park Lane South and Myrtle Avenue. Vendors, Food Carts, Rides, Music – always a great time at the Richmond Hill Park Fair.

** SSNDEC Fall Harvest Wine & Cheese – It’s an open house at The School Sisters of Notre Dame Educational Center for Women (87-04 88th Avenue) which features on-site tours, witness talks from students, and honorees receive commitment to service awards. The 2018 Harvest of Wine and Cheese celebration will take place on Sunday, September 16, 2018 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

** Veterans Breakfast – Assemblyman Mike Miller honors our veterans with a breakfast at Oak Ridge in Forest Park. Tuesday September 18th, at 10 a.m. Everyone is welcome to attend but you should RSVP with Mike’s office at 718-805-0950.

** International Food Fair – All Saints Episcopal Church cordially invites everyone to their annual International Food Fair, on Saturday, September 22nd from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Celebrate the diversity of our community with a day full of delicious food, drinks, and activities for the kids. Fun for the whole family!

** Blessing of the Pets – Emanuel United Church of Christ will be holding their annual blessing of the pets on Saturday, Sept 22nd starting at 11 a.m. This event is Rain or Shine – 93-12 91st Avenue (at Woodhaven Boulevard and 91st Avenue). Click here for highlights of previous blessings.

** Recycling Event – Sponsored by Senator Joe Addabbo & Assemblyman Mike Miller. At the George Seuffert Sr. Bandshell parking lot located in Forest Park on Forest Park Drive, one block west of Woodhaven Blvd in Woodhaven. Sunday, September 23rd from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Items that will be accepted for recycling are: Clothing & Textiles including clothing, coats, bedding, linens, paired shoes, scarves, belts, hats and handbags. ALL ITEMS MUST BE CLEAN & DRY. Electronics including computers, monitors, cell phones, servers, fax machines, typewriters, TV’s, PDA’s, scanners, copiers, printers, batteries, laptops, cameras, wires, power strips, chargers, cable boxes, fans, air conditioners, telephones and VCR tapes. NO APPLIANCES.

Paper including paper fiber and confidential papers. NO CARDBOARD. ALL PAPER ITEMS WILL BE SHREDDED WHILE YOU WATCH TO ENSURE SAFETY. Carpeting accepting ‘residential type’ carpeting and foam padding only. Household Goods including dishes, glasses, silverware, lamps, pots and drapes. They accept Book Donations, Eyeglass Donations. ** Wonderful Woodhaven Street Fair – The Annual Street Fair (sponsored by the GWDC/WBID) which is Sunday, September 30th from 12 noon to 6 p.m. (on Jamaica Avenue from Woodhaven Boulevard to 80th Street). Come visit us outside our office at 80-20 Jamaica Avenue.

** Hispanic Heritage Night – Assemblyman Mike Miller honors the contributions of our Hispanic residents at this annual ceremony, held this year on Wednesday October 3rd, at 6 p.m. at American Legion Post 118. Everyone is welcome to attend.

** Fall Festival – This is a fun family event at Victory Field on Saturday, October 13th from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Celebrate fall with this free event sponsored by CM Eric Ulrich with crafts, games, music, a great pumpkin patch (free pumpkins for kids), and more!

** News & Announcements:

** Condolences to The Matthews Family – We extend our sympathies to the Matthews family of Woodhaven. Vera Matthews, a longtime beloved member of the Woodhaven Cultural & Historical Society passed away today, just 12 days after her husband George passed away. Vera’s wake will be held at Walsh-La Bella at 70-17 Cooper Ave, Glendale, NY 11385 on Monday between 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Mass will be held at St. Thomas Apostle at 87-19 88th Ave in Woodhaven, NY 11421 on Tuesday at 9:45 a.m.

** Wellness checks on Woodhaven seniors – The Woodhaven Residents’ Block Association is developing a wellness check program for seniors in the area. Click here for more info.
