** Our Top Stories:

** Stabbing On Jamaica Avenue –  A group of young men attacked and stabbed a 24-year old young man on a busy Jamaica Avenue, during rush hour.  This story is developing. Anyone with information about this attack should call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.

** 311 Weekend Fundraiser for Special Needs Kids – Next Friday (3/11) is the start of 311 Weekend – a great way to help the community *AND* help some local kids with special needs. Basically, next weekend we need people to call 311 and report issues around the community that need addressed — broken streetlights, graffiti covered walls, illegal signs, illegal conversions, illegal curb cuts — and we need people to make small pledges — .10 per 311, .20 per 311, etc. And the money will go to the Challenger Division of WORKS Little League (formerly Rich-Haven) which is for kids with special needs, kids with Autism, etc. Click here for details.

** WRBA Town Hall –  The next Woodhaven Town Hall will be at 12 Noon on Saturday, March 19th at the American Legion Hall (89-02 91st Street, near PS 60). Click here to view our entire schedule for 2016.

** SBS To Cost 400 Million – It was revealed last week that DOT now admits that the cost for the proposed Woodhaven Boulevard SBS changes are double what they were originally saying.  The WRBA believes that the proposed changes to Woodhaven Boulevard are being forced on us by City Hall and by city agencies that have repeatedly failed our community. We are asking all of our residents to take 2 minutes to fill out this petition. This is critical to ensuring our voices are heard. Please share the petition website, www.SaveOurStreets.nyc, with family, friends, and neighbors and ask them to sign it.
** Radio Free Woodhaven – Tune in tonight at 10 PM to hear the latest on the recent stabbing on Jamaica Avenue, and the other top stories in Woodhaven. Click here at 10 PM to listen LIVE – or click the link any time later on to listen on demand. The Lufthansa heist netted about $5.875 million ($5 million in cash and $875,000 in jewelry) and the story behind that crime has led to numerous books and movies, most notably “Goodfellas,” which filmed scenes right here in Woodhaven, at Neir’s Tavern. One of the cargo workers that evening, Kerry Whalen, was bludgeoned and held at gunpoint and his experiences with the crime and the ensuing investigation led to his book “Inside the Lufthansa HEI$T: The FBI Lied” (Click here: bit.ly/fbi-lied). Recently, Mr. Whalen testified in the trial of Mr. Vincent Asaro, and he’ll be the guest speaker at the Woodhaven Cultural & Historical Society on Wednesday, March 30th at 1 PM at Emanuel United Church of Christ (91st Avenue & Woodhaven Boulevard). We will also have a presentation on the filming of Goodfellas and some Goodfellas trivia along with the discussion with Mr. Whalen.
