** Our Top Stories:

** Woodhaven Celebration – Last Chance to Get Tickets – The WRBA’s Annual Fundraiser/Celebration is scheduled for NEXT Friday, October 10th (that’s 10/10 — easy to remember!) and will be held this year at Roma View Catering. Dinner is a full salad station and homemade rolls and focaccia with a buffet including Baked Ziti, Occhetta Bolognese (meat sauce), Stuffed Mushrooms, Eggplant Rollatini, Chicken Francese, Veal Marsala, Beef Teriyaki, Rice Pilaf (Wild Rice with Peas & Prosciutto) and Shrimp Oreganata. Afterwards there will be fresh brewed coffee and tea, cake with strawberry shortcake filling and free beer, wine and soda at your table. Tickets are $65 each – click here to purchase tickets. No tickets will be sold after Monday (or if we reach capacity, whichever comes first).
** Thank You – A big thank you to all of the residents that bought tickets and made donations for the fundraiser for the Woodhaven-Richmond Hill Volunteer Ambulance Corps. The evening was a fun success (pics and video coming soon) and together we all raised over 3K for the Corps. Well done!
** Next Town Hall Meeting – Our next Town hall meeting is Saturday, October 18th at 12 Noon at the American Legion (89-02 91st street). Click here for a story about last meeting, at which the latest attack in Forest Park was discussed.

** Upcoming Events:

** Jamaica Avenue Trolley – There will be a trolley on Jamaica Avenue from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 4th, courtesy of the Woodhaven Business Improvement District.
** Blessing of the Pets  Emanuel United Church of Christ will hold their annual Blessing of the Pets on Saturday, October 4, starting at 11 a.m. Bring your dogs, cats, birds, turtles, etc. for a blessing at Emanuel (91st Avenue and Woodhaven Boulevard). Click here for cute pictures of pets from last year, and previous year’s blessings.
** Classic Car Show in Forest Park – East Coast Car Association – Sunday, October 5th from 9AM to 3 PM.  Classic Cars, Trucks, Tow Truck & Motorcycles, The FDNY Fire and Safety Unit, Free Children’s Face painting by Brittany Fernandez, Free Balloons for the Children – all donations go directly to St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children in Bayside Queens. The Toy Run is on 11-16-2014 from Forest Park (see www.eccatoysfortots.org for more information).
** Cemetery Cleanup 10/11 – The Woodhaven Cultural & Historical Society along with STA’s Woodhaven History Club and All Saints will be holding their 4th Cemetery Cleanup on Saturday October 11th from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.  Click here to see pics and video from the August Cleanup. Volunteers are welcome and needed.
** Veterans Town Hall – All local Veterans in the area are invited to a Veterans Town Hall hosted by Assemblyman Mike Miller and Councilman Eric Ulrich on Wednesday October 15, 2014 from 7:00p.m. – 9:00p.m. at American Legion Post 118 89-02 91st Street in Woodhaven. Among those in attendance will be Mayor’s Office of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Loree Sutton, Representatives from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and various Veterans Services Organizations.
** Forest Park Fall Festival (sponsored by Eric Ulrich) – The Forest Park Fall Festival will be held on Saturday, October 18, from noon to 3 p.m. Click here to see last year’s event which was very well received.  The fall festival is for families and will include crafts, entertainment, pumpkin patch, face painting, games and recreational activities.Click here for the flyer for this event.   IMPORTANT: Volunteers are needed to help with the kids with crafts, at the pumpkin patch and recreational areas, as well as set up and break down of the event. If you would like to part of the volunteers, please contact us.
** Wonderful Woodhaven Street Fair – This year’s Street Fair, brought to you by the WBID/GWDC, will be held on Sunday, October 19, from noon to 6 p.m. on Jamaica Avenue from Woodhaven Boulevard to 80th Street.

** Forest Park Dog Run Halloween Costume Contest – The Annual K-9 Korral Dog Run Halloween Costume Contest for Dogs will be held on October 25th from 1 to 3 p.m. at 85th Street and Park Lane South.  Free refreshments will be served.  Judging begins at 2 p.m. and the WRBA’s Ed Wendell will be serving as one of the judges.  $5 entry fee for non-members, free for members (bring your membership cards).  Bobbing for Hot Dogs contest 2:45 p.m. Fun event to watch, click here for last year’s highlights.  For info call Charlotte: 917 337-7613.
** Emanuel’s Fall Fair – Vendors galore, books, nick-nacks, raffles and prizes — Saturday, November 15th, all day long, Emanuel United Church of Christ, corner of 91st Avenue and Woodhaven Boulevard.
** Defensive Driving Class – Completion of DMV-approved defensive driving classes can provide you with a 10% reduction on your automobile insurance.  There will be a National Safety Council Defensive Driving Class held on Saturday, November 22nd from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Emanuel United Church of Christ (91st Avenue and Woodhaven Boulevard).  Reservations are required; please call 718-849-1153 and leave name and phone number.  Cost for this one-day course is $35.  Breakfast, light refreshments, snacks, coffee will be provided; you must bring your own lunch
** News & Announcements:
** Visitors to the Carousel – Over 200 members of the National Carousel Association visited the Forest Park Carousel last week, click here to read about it.
** Large Sinkhole in Forest Park – Remember the giant sinkhole in Forest Park (Click here and here)? Well, the sidewalk is now completely closed and plans to have this dangerous eyesore fixed are underway (click here and here).
** Caution: Grand Larceny – Read and Share – An 89-year old woman was the victim of an ancient scam in the 102nd Precinct – click here to read what happened.
** Suspect Sought in Groping – As we go to press with this, we see news that a woman was groped in Woodhaven – as of this writing, we do not know where. Click here for more information.
