Proposed Renovations of Mary Whalen Playground

There was a meeting on Tuesday, June 10th to review a presentation of the renovations to Mary Whalen Playground (79th and Park Lane South).  1 Million Dollars of funding has been allocated to this project by Councilmember Elizabeth Crowley, with an additional $180,000 coming from Queens Borough President Melinda Katz.

The presentation touched on the current conditions of the playground which, while still very nice, needs some upgrades.

The playground will be broken up into several sections with new pathways created and new plantings and trees.  The young children will have their own areas while a section of the back will be designated for teens.

Here is a sample of the playground equipment for pre-school children.
