** Our next Town Hall meeting is scheduled for 1 PM on Saturday, May 18thPlease Take Note of the LocationSt. Luke’s Church (87-34 85th St).  We will be joined by a representative of the Queens District Attorney Office.

** Operation ID: Woodhaven — Reminder – Protect your valuables — click here for informationTHIS SATURDAY — at the WRBA Office – 84-20 Jamaica Avenue.  We have expanded the event to include bicycles – come and register your bike, iPhones, cell phones, laptops, etc.  You can also register your vehicles in a few different anti-theft programs and make an appointment for VIN Etching.  We’ll be there from 10 AM to 2 PM.  Remember:  We will only host these events if we get decent turnout.  If you can, please come down and register at least one valuable with the NYPD.

** Radio Free Woodhaven.  We’re on the air LIVE each Friday Night at 10 PM and we’ve been interviewing candidates for Queens Borough President.  Tentatively scheduled Friday night is Councilman Leroy Comrie.  Click here Friday at 10 PM to listen to the show LIVE.

** World Organ Day.  On Monday, May 6th churches around the world will celebrate World organ Day, a celebration of the 850th Anniversary of Notre Dame in Paris.  Churches around the world on all different continents will hold concerts, creating a 24-hour concert.  Click here to read about it.  In all of new York City there are only 2 churches participating and one of them is right here in Woodhaven!  There will be a FREE concert at Emanuel United Church of Christ on Monday May 6th at 7 PM.

** WRBA Hosted World Book Night Event a Success.  On April 23rd, 2013 Woodhaven residents Monica and Margaret Varona handed 60 books to residents who stopped by for a free book.  Click here for a picture of the group.  Many thanks to all who participated.

** Last Week’s Poll Results:  How Do You Think the NYPD Should Handle People Using the Park After 9 PM, when the Park Closes?

** WRBA Battles Sanitation — At our last meeting we detailed some of our battles with DSNY.  Click here to read about it — and please tell us about your own issues with DSNY.

** The WRBA Parks Committee is having its first meeting on Tuesday April 30th at 7 PM at the WRBA Office 84-20 Jamaica Avenue.  We have a few members on this committee but there is room for more — let us know if you’d like to be on the Parks Committee.

** There will be a Free Recycling Event on Sunday, April 28, 2013 from 10 AM – 3 PM sponsored by Senator Joe Addabbo & Assemblyman Mike Miller at the Forest Park Bandshell parking lot.  Clothing & Textiles including clothing, coats, bedding, linens, paired shoes, scarves, belts, hats and handbags; Electronics including computers, monitors, cell phones, servers, fax machines, TV’s, PDA’s, scanners, copiers, printers, batteries, laptops, cameras, power strips, chargers, fans, air conditioners, telephones and VCR tapes.  Click here for more information.** For items that cannot be disposed at our local recycling event, the Department of Sanitation (DSNY) will be holding SAFE Disposal Events nearby to provide NYC residents with a one-stop method to safely dispose of potentially harmful household products.  The acronym SAFE stands for solvents, automotive, flammables, electronics. Materials accepted include common residential items such as auto fluids, batteries, electronics, glues, medications, paint products, and more. When deciding what items to bring, residents should look for products labeled with the following signal words: DANGER, WARNING, or CAUTION. Products labeled DANGER represent the highest hazard level. Please also bring any other materials stored in your home that you know may be harmful.  Saturday, March 30, Queens, Citi Field, Parking Lots E & F (corner of Roosevelt Ave & Shea Rd), cars enter at parking gate 4 on Shea Rd.  Also, Sunday, April 7, Brooklyn, Prospect Park, Park Circle (corner of Parkside Ave & Prospect Park SW) cars approach from Ocean Ave and Lincoln Rd. Both events are from 10 am to 4 pm (rain or shine).  Click here for more information
