First Aid Class in Woodhaven


A First Aid Class will be offered at the Woodhaven-Richmond Hill Volunteer Ambulance Corps (78-15 Jamaica Ave.) on Sunday, February 17, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.  The cost is $40 (which is less than half of what the Red Cross charges).

Some of what you will learn:fa

  • Recognizing and caring for sudden emergency situations until help arrives. For example Stroke, Heart Attack, Seizures, Diabetic Emergencies.
  • Learning to control bleeding, whether minor or severe, and depending on cause and location of injury. Proper treatment of 1st, 2nd, or 3rd degree burns.   Recognizing the symptoms of shock which can follow a severe burn or bleeding, and knowing how to treat it.
  • Treating injuries to muscles, bones and joints. Learning a simple “sling and binder” technique for an arm injury. Being aware of possible complications from a head, neck, or back injury.
  • Environmental problems, such as heat, cold, and poisoning.
