NYC Transit Work in Woodhaven

by

NYC Transit Alert:  Some of you may have noticed the signs on Jamaica Avenue (from around 95th to 98th Streets) advising you not to park — that’s because NYC Transit is going to start weekend track repair.  Here is the memo from NYC Transit:

This is to inform you of MTA New York City Transit’s plans for weekend construction work on the J line in Queens in Spring 2010 which will affect service between Brooklyn and Jamaica Center.

NYC Transit will be carrying out track replacement work along the J line’s elevated structure between the Woodhaven Boulevard and 104th Street Stations.  This work is necessary in order to ensure safe travel conditions.

On the April 3-4, April 17-18, April 24-25, May 1-2, and May 8-9, 2010 weekends, J subway service will operate between the Chambers Street Station in Manhattan and the Cypress Hills Station in Brooklyn from 4:00 a.m. Saturday until 10:00 p.m. Sunday.  A fare-free substitute shuttle bus service will replace J service and operate between the Cypress Hills Station on the J line and the Jamaica-Van Wyck Station on the E line, located on the Van Wyck Expressway’s West Service Road.

A list of shuttle bus stop locations is attached for your information.  A similar service diversion will be in effect during June and July.  We will provide separate notification as to that work.

We will post notices in all affected stations and make announcements on all trains informing customers of these temporary service changes.  NYC Transit personnel will be on hand at all affected stations and along the substitute shuttle bus route in order to assist our customers with any questions they may have and to expedite operations.  Convenient “take ones” which explain the alternate service route will also be made available for our customers.  Service notices will also be posted on our website, www.mta.info, and notices will also be printed in local newspapers prior to the commencement of the project.

In order to carry out this work, NYC Transit will also need to implement traffic diversions in the area of Jamaica Avenue at various times during this project for the placement of street cranes necessary to lift new track panels up and remove old ones.  Parking will be restricted along Jamaica Avenue in the area of the work sites in order to accommodate one bi-directional lane in each direction.  Vehicle parking will also be restricted at each crane location for 150 feet.

The street crane locations and closures on the April 3-4 weekend:

  • Lane diversions on the southbound service road of Woodhaven Boulevard between Jamaica Avenue and
    85th Road on April 3rd.
  • Lane diversions on the northbound service road of Woodhaven Boulevard between Jamaica Avenue and
    85th Road on April 4th.
  • Street closing on 94th Street between Jamaica Avenue and 86th Avenue on April 4th.

Street cranes will also be placed at the following locations at various times between April 3rd and June 28th:

  • 104th Street between Jamaica Avenue and 86th Avenue
  • 102nd Street between Jamaica Avenue and 86th Avenue
  • 101st Street between Jamaica Avenue and 86th Avenue
  • 98th Street between Jamaica Avenue and Park Lane South
  • 96th Street between Jamaica Avenue and 86th Avenue

We appreciate your community’s patience and understanding while we complete this important work.  If you have any additional questions or need any other information regarding this issue, please do not hesitate to contact me.

This Sunday is Easter–the most important holy days of the Christian reigions and the MTA is doing track work. Isn’t this disrespectful to all the church bound christians. Parking will be at a scarce.
